“Pi” – The Unveiling Of The Building’s Signature Public Art Work
Discover the Place des Arts’ signature public art work created by Lise Beaudry. “Pi” is an installation that rises high and proud in the Atrium (foyer) as an inspiring homage to a dynamic community. It consists of 15,000 photos found in the archives of the Place des Arts’ seven founding organizations, stacked to create a pillar that is 3.14 metres in height. That number is the irrational number pi, an inspiring symbol of infinity and transcendence.
“Pi” – The Opening Of The Gallery’s Inaugural Exhibition
See the first-ever exhibition presented in the Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario’s new space! Beginning at 7 PM, Lise Beaudry presents the exhibition “Pi,” which reveals the depth and richness of the research and reflection that went into creating the building’s public art work. This exploration of the archives of the Place des Arts’ seven founding members commemorate the efforts of countless personalities whose work marked a community’s history and fostered its hopes for the future.
Le legs – Indigenous Literary Exhibition
“Le legs” (The legacy) is a literary exhibition which explores the timeless values inherent in Indigenous ways of thinking. Through the voices of several authors, it explores what the original inhabitants of Turtle Island bring to humanity in terms of wisdom and philosophical principles. Presented by Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury, this exhibition is part of the 10th edition of Sudbury’s biannual book fair and literary festival to be held from May 5 to 8, 2022.
Preview Of The Exhibition « Ces Beaux Visages »
Enjoy a preview of the upcoming exhibition “Ces beaux visages” (These beautiful faces), a collection of vintage images captured in the 70s and 80s by photographer Cédéric Michaud, in the midst of a defining time for artistic expression and community building in the “Nouvel-Ontario” movement. Presented by La Nuit sur l’étang.
Tricoter
“Tricoter” (Knitting) is an interactive experience that’s part dance circle, part knitting circle! Holding long strands of wool, participants create the dance/installation as they move about, and intertwine. It’s a fun moment of exploration, curiosity and belonging to a community. Presented by Carrefour francophone. Families and friends can reserve their spots.
Clowns and Comical Adventures
In this workshop, children create characters through play, acting and fun costumes that stimulate the imagination. It’s an adventure full of fun and laughs with clowns Natalie Lalonde and Ryan Demers. Presented by Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury.
Story Time With Fufu And Nadia
There are many ways to tell a story. One of them is with puppets. How do they move? What do they want to tell us? Children are invited to listen to stories and tell stories themselves, with puppeteer Nadia Simard. Presented by Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury.
Construction Games
For family open house day, the Kids Zone will turn into a builders’ workshop for kids! With Pierre Harrison from PLAYLearnThink as their guide, they will find all sorts of bits and pieces of material and tools to build something straight out of their imagination. Presented by Carrefour francophone.
