Le Roi Poubelle is a musical theater piece for young audiences about a documentary filmmaker shipwrecked on a strange island made entirely of trash and her eventual encounter with the strange Roi Poubelle (Trash King), the sole inhabitant and self-proclaimed ruler of the plastic island.
In order to examine themes of legacy and inheritance, the music of Le Roi Poubelle is composed and played on musical instruments made from trash, recycled materials and found objects. The piece playfully invites the audience to rethink its relationship with its material consumption.
Through nostalgic melodies and musical delirium, Le Roi Poubelle explores loneliness, grief, hope and the feeling of having to face alone the consequences of the actions of many.
