Panache bookstore welcomes its first Pet Mayor
The Sudbury community has spoken: it is Ariane “Minousse” Minouchkine who becomes the first Pet Mayor of Panache bookstore. Elected following a popular vote, the cat, a follower of Franz Fanon and a great vocalist, will embody the joy of reading among the bookstore’s audience for the next year.
Her human, Alex Tétreault, is delighted with the nomination, which comes at the right time: “An experienced cat having survived the ardour of her youth, Minousse is ready to take on the challenge of inaugurating the role of Pet Mayor. This opportunity has come at the perfect time in her life and she has everything she needs to rule with wisdom and humility.”
In the next year, the community will get to know Minousse, who will share with us her literary favorites, her thoughts and beautiful photos of her daily activities. These snapshots will be visible on the bookstore’s social network accounts (Facebook, Instagram) as well as in its newsletters.
Both a fundraiser and a visibility campaign, the Pet Mayor program, launched in April 2024, attracted nine applications from animals in the region, all excellent. The bookstore thanks all those who, through their participation, support its activities.
Since its opening, Panache bookstore has offered storytimes for kids, book clubs featuring books chosen by members of the Sudbury community, game nights, open mics and author meetings. Located on the ground floor of Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury, the bookstore offers a selection of French-Canadian, Quebec and international books for adults, youth and French learners, as well as educational materials, games in French for the whole family, and stationery items.
