Gord Hill’s The 500 Years of Resistance Comic Book

09 May
04 Jul

Gord Hill’s The 500 Years of Resistance Comic Book is a powerful portrayal of Indigenous resistance to the colonization of the Americas. His unique chronicle extends from the earliest contacts with European settlers to flashpoints of recent history. After years of research, it was first published in 2010 in black and white. An expanded colour version with accounts of more recent events was published in 2021. A French translation was published by Prise de parole in 2023. The exhibition shines a light on Hill’s artistic evolution and demonstrates the importance of translating his work. It is an opportunity to change perspectives and to celebrate centuries of Indigenous resistance.

Opening Reception: Thursday, May 9 at 5 pm

This exhibition is a collaboration between Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury, Éditions Prise de parole, Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury, Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario, kwahiatonhk !  and Ontario Creates.
