A new French bookstore-boutique is opening soon in Sudbury!

October 20, 2023

Located on the main floor of Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury, this new downtown shop will offer a great selection of books by French Canadian, Quebec and international authors, as well as educational resources, stationery, crafts and artwork.

Our aim is to:

  • Serve the Francophone population of northeastern Ontario by ensuring access to French-language books and products and to works by area artists.
  • Showcase the French language through culture, arts and literature.
  • Provide customized and knowledgeable consulting services adapted to the needs of the community, including parents, children, librarians, teachers and students.
  • Support a rich and diverse offer of French publications and provide cultural mediation.

The Team

The French bookstore-boutique is a collaborative undertaking by four partners: Éditions Prise de parole, Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury, Carrefour francophone and Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury.

The organization held its founding meeting on Friday, October 13 and proudly announced the members of its board of directors, namely Stéphane Cormier (president), Diane Leblanc (vice-president), Geneviève LeBlanc (vice-president), Jean-Gilles Pelletier (treasurer) and Stéphane Gauthier (secretary).

The board is pleased to announce that it has entrusted the project’s development and success to their newly hired executive director, Monica Meza Giron. Monica is a multi-talented professional who has studied photography and graphic design and holds a master’s degree in communications from Université du Québec à Montréal. Her career experience includes project development for Maison d’Haïti and cultural mediation for the McCord Museum. She aims to make Sudbury’s French bookstore-boutique a welcoming place for all:

“I am honoured and excited to be setting out on this adventure with the members of the bookstore-boutique organization and the people of Greater Sudbury. Having visited the region and learned about the vibrancy and history of its Franco-Ontarian population, I am convinced of the importance of providing the community with a space that can foster dialogue around books and cultural activities. In our bookstore-boutique, everyone should feel at home: Francophones, Francophiles, people who love writing and any person too shy to speak French.”

We are very happy to welcome Monica to our family of arts organizations and patrons. She has recently moved to Sudbury and is busily preparing for opening day.
